A little clarity

Cookies and analytics.

Your choice, remembered on this browser.

Your analytics choice

Optional website analytics use PostHog. They begin only after you allow them. Declining does not affect browsing, email signup, or downloads. Use these buttons to change your choice anytime. We also keep analytics off when your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

Analytics are optional and off until you choose to allow them.

What we store in your browser

We do not set analytics cookies. When you make a choice, local storage saves scribulate.analytics-consent.v1 with your decision, notice version, and time. This preference lasts up to 180 days and is used only to honor your choice.

After you allow analytics, session storage saves scribulate.analytics-session.v1, a random identifier for this browser tab. It groups page visits and download requests within that tab, ends when the tab is closed, and is removed when you decline or consent expires. Clearing browser storage resets your choice. Browser storage has privacy implications even when no cookies are used.

What optional analytics measure

Page paths, referring site origins, a broad mobile/desktop category, event times, and installer download requests with the version, EXE/MSI format, and download method. We remove URL query strings and fragments, and do not send email addresses, form contents, desktop recordings, transcripts, notes, or dictionary entries. There is no session replay, advertising tracking, automatic click capture, or cross-site identifier.

PostHog receives connection information when an event is sent. Events request that IP addresses are not retained as event properties and disable IP-based location enrichment. Our temporary tab identifier is not an app account or proof of a unique person. Our configured PostHog project uses the United States region. See PostHog’s privacy notice and our privacy policy.

Downloads and other services

GitHub hosts installers and provides aggregate asset download counts. These include direct GitHub downloads, repeat requests, and potentially automated traffic. A website download event records a request to start a download; neither measure confirms a completed download, installation, or number of unique people.

Hosting, DNS, email, and linked external services have their own operational data practices, described in our privacy policy. Following a GitHub download link opens GitHub’s service.
